To be eligible for Self Employment or Training, you must:

  • Be an EI Client (defined as actively receiving EI; having an EI Claim that has ended in the past 5 years; OR earned more than $2,000 in EI insurable earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years)

OR

  • Be receiving income assistance or disability supports

OR

  • Have a disability

Have you ever thought of entrepreneurship? WorkBC may be able to help make your dreams a reality. Eligible, case managed clients with an approved business plan may be able to attend Douglas College’s Self Employment Program with a referral from a WorkBC New Westminster Skills enhancement Specialist. Clients who attend Douglas College’s Self Employment Program will be able to attend business plan development and entrepreneurial workshops, will be assisted in their business launch and implementation, and will receive ongoing support and mentorship. Upon completion of the Self Employment Program at Douglas College, clients are expected to be self-sufficient and confidently run their own business.
